Berahino has to be best scorer bet of Premier League weekend

Published:

Since Christmas Day, West Brom have only managed three Premier League goals across their six top-flight outings.

It was no surprise then to see Tony Pulis targeting a striker in the transfer window, although links with the far-from-prolific Carlton Cole did seem strange if this goal-shy run was intended to improve.

No striker eventually arrived at the Hawthorns, but more importantly, Saido Berahino wasn’t sold either.

There are only two Baggies players to net more than a solitary Premier League goal this season. Defender Craig Dawson has two and Berahino is responsible for nine.

If West Brom’s two-game scoreless league streak is to end, it would be foolish to back against Berahino and Burnley look ripe opposition for the target to be found.

The England under-21 striker scored twice in a 4-0 over Sean Dyche’s men back in September and Burnley have started to leak goals frequently of late.

In their last nine matches, the Clarets have failed to keep a single clean sheet and have conceded 20 times in total across this run of fixtures.

Therefore, Berahino looks massively overpriced at 11/5 to net any time in the 90 minutes against Burnley again.

Looking back at the last four gameweeks of Premier League action, Berahino has managed six shots on target too, which is a total that has only been bettered by Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

For those wanting something at a slightly bigger price, the Baggies’ top scorer is 11/2 to break the deadlock and the same odds to net last at Turf Moor.

Of the two, clear preference is for Berahino to close the scoring.

Burnley have scored six times across their last four fixtures in all competitions, but all have arrived in the first half of matches. Five have come in the first 17 minutes of matches too.

Therefore, a fast start from the hosts is on the cards, but potentially a struggle after the interval.
