Chelsea winning Premier League race to sign Palermo hotshot

Every so often a player comes along who is so good everyone wants to buy him. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Paul Pogba are just three in the modern game that wouldn’t be passed on by the world’s biggest and best sides, but it seems a less obvious Serie A star is garnering the same attention.
Palermo striker Paulo Dybala has got the Premier League’s elite clubs in a fight for his signature, with Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United all keen to land the 21-year-old this summer.
A fine campaign with the Italian club this season is largely the reason for the sudden interest, although comparisons with current Citizen superstar Sergio Aguero do the Cordoba native no harm either.
Dybala, who was brought to Serie A from Instituto in 2012, has struck 11 times in all competitions for Palermo this season and has made 22 appearances for them all told.
Clearly a player of immense, but developing talent, the forward has already been trusted with 78 outings for the Italians since arriving, repaying their faith with 15 goals for the club.
Arsenal were thought to be in the driving seat for the Argentine’s signature in January, but have since been overtaken in the race for Dybala’s signature by Chelsea, according to reports.
The Blues are believed to have already met the £29.5m asking price Palermo have set for their star striker, leaving Jose Mourinho’s men with just the formalities to arrange before being able to conclude a deal.
Didier Drogba’s advancing years means the Portuguese manager will need to replace his dependable third-string striker sooner rather than later and could well decide to do so with a young, up-and-coming player like Dybala in the future.
Not known for his keenness to promote from the youth team, Mourinho signing Dybala for the role over using the likes of Patrick Bamford seems most likely.
