It’s a case of friends reunited at Selhurst Park this Wednesday as Alan Pardew prepares to lead his Crystal Palace charges out against his previous club Newcastle United.
The man known affectionately as ‘Pardiola’ in south east London already masterminded two Toon victories against the Eagles in both the Premier League and Capital One Cup but with the Magpies now under the stewardship of John Carver, a different outcome could be on the cards here.
It’s Palace, this time round, who head into the game in form and as the 11/8 slight favourites for the win with a draw offered at 11/5 with Ladbrokes.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are also 11/5 for the victory though we’ve turned to three alternative selections that look safe bets in a potentially topsy-turvy Premier League encounter.
The former Peterborough man has enjoyed his recent encounters with Newcastle United, scoring the opening goal in both of the previous two meetings between the teams this term and as a potential penalty taker looks the best bet to open the scoring here.
With four goals to his name from Palace’s last six competitive outings, there are few better picks to find the net at Selhurst Park having scored against Liverpool and Tottenham at the ground already this term.
As recent 3-2 victories over Burnley in the Premier League and Southampton in the FA Cup have served to showcase Palace’s penchant for getting involved in high-scoring affairs and it should prove no different when Newcastle United come to town.
These two played out a 3-3 draw at St James’ Park earlier this season and, though some of the goals came in extra time, a League Cup meeting between the teams also ended 3-2.
It therefore stands to reason that two decidedly dodgy sides should get involved in a big scoreline.
