England star Mooen price boosted for must win Sri Lanka match

England face Sri Lanka in a crunch World Cup match in Wellington where nothing less than a win will do for Eoin Morgan’s side if they want to be playing knock-out cricket at the tournament.

Heavy defeats to joint hosts Australia and New Zealand gave England the worst possible start to their Pool A campaign, but with the two toughest tests out of the way a convincing win over Scotland has at least given them a platform.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka began proceedings with an opening-day defeat to New Zealand but have since warmed to the task by beating Afghanistan and thrashing Bangladesh to sit two points ahead of England before this clash.

England start the match in Wellington as marginal underdogs at 1/1, while Sri Lanka take 4/5 favouritism which is certainly justified by their recent 5-2 ODI series win over the Three Lions, albeit on home turf.

However, in these pressure cooker one-off matches it’s often individual performances that prove the difference and luckily for Ladbrokes customers two game-changing batsmen have been boosted to top score for their respective nations.

Moeen Ali has been enhanced from 4s to 6/1 to score the most England runs, while Mahela Jayawardene is also boosted from 4/1 to 6s for the Sri Lankans.

Moeen has been forging a reputation as a stroke-player of real quality and bravery at the top of England’s order, epitomised by his explosive bash of 128 off 107 balls, containing five sixes against Scotland.

The bearded left-hander also racked up a ton during the series in Sri Lanka, but compared to the legendary Jayawardene any such figures pale in comparison to the great man.

The 37-year-old top order batsman has hit five hundreds against England in ODIs, more than against any other Test playing country, while averaging just over 40 in this format.

Like Moeen, Jayawardene already has a century to his name at the tournament as well, coming against Afghanistan.
