Everton legend says Merseyside Derby is only game that matters

| 06.02.2015

There’s been a lot of talk recently about how Everton can turn around their season and what their priorities should be for the remainder of the campaign.

The Toffees currently lie 12th in the Premier League having won just one of their last seven games.

And with a Europa League last-32 engagement against Swiss side Young Boys on the horizon we asked a former Goodison Park legend how Roberto Martinez’s side should approach their upcoming assignments.

Speaking at Ladbrokes’ #ForTheFans transfer deadline day event, Peter Reid gave his verdict to our news team.

“The most important game for Everton is this Saturday’s Merseyide Derby. I don’t care about the Europa League” he said.

“They got a great result at Palace and that’s something to build on. When the red half of Merseyside come to Goodison then just focus on winning that game, don’t even think about Europe.”

Despite their home advantage Everton are currently the 2/1 outsiders to win the 224th clash between themselves and arch-rivals Liverpool.

Would victory kick-start what’s been a slow-burning season so far?

“It’ll be a great atmosphere. Being from Merseyside they’re great games to be involved in. The blue half are particularly looking forward to it” was Reid’s final assessment.

Liverpool are the 13/10 favourites to claim a sixth league victory in seven outings with the draw priced at 12/5 with Ladbrokes.
