We need to improve on last season, says Widnes star Hanbury

Anything other than a top eight finish would be considered a failure for Widnes Vikings in Super League XX.

That is the opinion of Aussie fullback Rhys Hanbury who said the aim of this season is to see the Vikings improve on last year’s league position.

Talking exclusively to Ladbrokes ahead of the new season, the 29-year-old also revealed that the Vikings’ future is in safe hands.

What would be a successful season for Widnes in Super League XX?

We’re aiming for the top eight. We want to keep on improving from last season so eight or better.

IF you could pick any other Super League player to sign for Widnes this year who would you pick and why?

I wouldn’t pick anyone, I’d stick with the team we’ve already got.

Who will be the next big thing at Widnes?

We’ve got a few good young guys coming through. We’ve seen a bit of Danny Craven and Jack Owens.

They’re going to keep pushing us older fellas to keep on going but Matty Whitely in the back row hasn’t played yet but once he gets a go he’ll be good.

If Ladbrokes gave you a free £100 bet (other than Widnes) to win the Super League who would pick and why?

No one. If it’s not Widnes!

Ladbrokes are the proud new sponsors of the Challenge Cup , what is your favourite memory of the competition?

Making the semi-final last year for sure. Coming from Australia I only knew a little bit about the competition but I’ve grown to love it since moving here.
