This year’s Ladbrokes Golden Jacket has already served up plenty of drama heading into the upcoming final live on Sky Sports.
And while we expect the showpiece contest to be just as exciting we’re going to be fairly conservative when it comes to picking a winner.
Racenight Jenny has survived a fair few bumps and scrapes on her way to this stage. And with antepost favourite Roxholme Dream coming unstuck in the semi-finals her path to the £17,500 prize is clear.
Here’s our rundown of the final six.
What’s not to like about Tony Collet’s smart bitch? She’s as game as anything and stays all day. Even Crayford’s notoriously tight turns and traffic pile-ups haven’t managed to stop her quest for success.
An impressive 45.36sec victory in the semis was even more eye-catching given her slow start and we can see this very likeable type plotting a course for the big prize.
Pinging the lids and showing plenty of early pace will be Black Francis’ key to victory.
Mark Wallis’ son of Head Bound has defied the odds so far but this field could be far more unforgiving should the recent Super Stayers winner fail to gain a competitive advantage over these rivals.
A very lively contender for the Golden Jacket crown. His seven-and-three-quarter-length trouncing of Millwards Amy in the third semi-final really laid down a marker having just scraped through the heats following a spot of bother.
Trainer Tony Gifkins has been full of praise for his charge and will be looking for more of the same when the traps open.
This is hardly an ideal draw but if he can find some racing room then Wiki Waki Woo could cause some of the principals a few problems.
Is yet to sparkle in this competition but a 23.60sec split in his semi-final highlights the potential that’s there to cause an upset.
It would take some effort for Paul Young to win this with Millwards Amy but that won’t stop the each-way backers piling in.
We know that this feisty competitor likes being out wide at Crayford and being the massive outsider isn’t something that should put anyone off.
Paul Young’s other finalist has run his heart out to get to this stage and connections can be proud of those efforts.
However, this looks like the end of the line for the Irish recruit. As the sole wide he may avoid some of the trouble that could disrupt the final but even then he’ll have to pull off something quite special.
