Lewandowski enhanced to continue Champions League love affair

Back among the goals during Bayern Munich’s 8-0 victory over Hamburg at the weekend, Robert Lewandowski is surely among the leading candidates to open the scoring against Shakhtar Donetsk and has been given the Ladbrokes price boost treatment accordingly.

The 26-year-old has been boosted from 10/3 to 9/2 with the bookmaker to find the net first against the Ukrainian having scored in two of the Bavarians’ three away games in Europe so far this season.

Lewandowski was on target in Die Roten’s 7-1 mauling of AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico and also scored in Bayern’s 3-2 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad.

However it’s his European record at previous club Borussia Dortmund that demands particular attention from anyone considering this particular price boost.

Over his last two seasons at the Westfalenstadion, Lewandowski managed 16 goals in 21 Champions League outings and currently averages a goal every two games for Bayern.

And fans of the Bavarian outfit and punters alike will be hoping the Pole can get somewhere close to the match-winning display that helped Dortmund dump Real Madrid out of the tournament en route to the final in 2013.

Lewandowski was in his element in the home leg of that tie, scoring four goals in a 4-1 victory for the German side that all but secured their place in the final at the expense of Los Blancos.

Opponents Shakhtar Donetsk have been out of competitive action since early December and rarely impressed at home in the group phase of the competition, winning just one of their three fixtures.

With Bayern firing on all cylinders and keep to get the job done with time to spare, don’t be surprised to see the Bavarians go on the offensive with the Pole front and centre in all attacking endeavours.
