Man United’s deadline day in danger of being a very damp squib

Published:

Based on the one transfer window that Louis van Gaal has been involved in at Manchester United, it’s fair to assume that deadline day might be a busy 24 hours for the Old Trafford club.

While the number of transfer rumours surrounding the club are a positive sign, it’s becoming clearer by the minute that the Red Devils could very well let one of the busiest days in football shopping pass them by without a single deal.

Marquinhos, Kevin de Bruyne, Mats Hummels and Kevin Strootman have all been linked with the 40/1 title hopefuls, but there is little concrete suggestion that deals for any of the quartet are close to being finalised.

A far more likely scenario is that a number of fringe players bid the club farewell, with midfielder Anderson leading the way with a move back to his native Brazil.

Belgian winger Adnan Januzaj is rumoured to be hot on the centre-midfielder’s heels, while Darren Fletcher is another who is demanding plenty of interest as the clock winds down on the winter transfer window.
