Man Utd legend pours cold water over Baggies’ midfielder chase

| 02.02.2015

Plenty of sides in the bottom half of the Premier League, as well as a couple in the top, are eyeing up the opportunity to sign Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher on transfer deadline day, but one Sky Sports pundit thinks the Scot will be staying put.

Gary Neville, who played with Fletcher during a 400-appearance career at Old Trafford, believes that the injury to Michael Carrick will convince Louis van Gaal to keep hold of his vice captain as cover in the centre of the park.

Neville-2-2-15“With the injury to Michael Carrick for four weeks, maybe Fletcher will get some more football in the next four weeks. I don’t think he’ll be in a rush to get out of United, he can wait until the summer and do it in his own time,” Neville said in the Sky Sports News studio.

That revelation will be bad news for Tony Pulis and West Brom, who are hoping to lure the 31-year-old to the Hawthorns in a bid to secure their Premier League status at odds of 2/9.

West Ham were the early favourites to sign Fletcher, but the deal fell through over the weekend after the Hammers decided to pursue a loan deal for the midfielder, rather than a permanent one.
