Six Nations: Brown to mark big England win over Italy with try

Published:

Having kicked off their Six Nations campaign in style with victory over Wales in Cardiff, an unchanged England side stroll into their first Twickenham outing of the tournament as cast-iron favourites to beat Italy.

After the Azzurri lost out 3-26 to Ireland in Rome on the same weekend, it is hard to argue with Ladbrokes’ 25/1 assessment of their remote chances in London, but no one in their right mind should be basing their punting plan on England’s minuscule odds of 1/150 either.

Here are three potential ways to multiply your hard-earned dosh which hold far more attraction:

England to beat Italy (-30.0) @ 1/1

This is a hefty handicap to overcome but there were clues in the opening fixtures that it’s one this exciting England side are capable of hurdling against visitors who gave up 70 per cent of possession to the Irish at home.

However, where Ireland were a little conservative as they looked to the boot of Ian Keatley to lay the foundations for victory when gifted penalties, at Twickenham, Stuart Lancaster’s men are likely to go for the jugular.

Against a notoriously rigid Welsh defence England scored two legitimate tries and came within an obstructive post and a crossing offence of adding two more in the second half, so something like a repeat of the 52-11 drubbing handed out to Jacques Brunel’s side in Rome back in March feels likely.

Mike Brown to score the first try @ 8/1

The Harlequins full-back was instrumental at the Millennium Stadium both in defence – where his covering tackling and catching was first class – and in attack, where his beautifully-weighted grubber kick set up the first try for Anthony Watson.

Brown will have far more freedom to overlap against Italy and after starting the rout off last time, before adding a further try before the break, the roving number 15 is a sizzling price to go over first at Twickenham.

Chris Robshaw to score anytime @ 7/2

Another man to go over in the Stadio Olimpico, England’s skipper was at his driving best from the breakdown against Wales and in this form the flanker is a handsome price to go over the line.
