Super League team guide: New coach can guide St Helens to 2015 glory

| 06.02.2015

Team Name: St Helens

Nickname: The Saints

Ground: Langtree Park

Famous Fans: Johnny Vegas ,Freddie Flintoff, Ricky Hatton, and Dave Chisnall

Super League Wins: Six – 1996, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2014

Last Season: Grand Final Winners

New Signings: Atelea Vea (London Broncos), Travis Burns (Hull KR)

Head Coach: Keiron Cunningham

A former Wales and Great Britain international, Cunningham was a one club man representing The Saints throughout his entire career to make almost 500 appearances before hanging up his boots in 2010.

A bronze statue of the hooker now stands proudly outside Langtree Park, where Cunningham now hopes to make his name in coaching.

The 38-year-old took over from Nathan Brown at the end of last season and will be looking to retain the Super League crown won under the Aussie.

Star Man:Tommy Makinson

With 1054 tackles to his name, last year’s Harry Sunderland trophy winner James Roby is pivotal to Saints’ success. But if it’s a flair player you’re looking for then exciting winger Tommy Makinson certainly fits the bill.

The 23-year-old was the third highest try scorer in the league last year with 25 and also chipped in with a decent five assists, 94 tackles and nine goals.

Makinson is a great value pick to be the regular season top try scorer at 12/1 and can be backed at 20/1 to cross the line more than anyone else in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup

Here are some of Makinson’s best tries for Saints:

Super League Grand Final odds: 7/2

Ladbrokes Challenge Cup odds: 4/1
