New system exciting but makes for tough season, says Wakefield star

A solid start is imperative this year more so than at any other stage in Super League’s history.
That is the opinion of Wakefield star Danny Kirmond, who believes a poor start could easily be the difference between glory and potential relegation under the new Super 8 system.
In an interview with Ladbrokes News, the 29-year-old tells us his hopes for the season ahead and reveals Kyle Amor would be welcomed back to Belle Vue with open arms.
What would be a successful season for Wakefield in Super League XX?
I think we’ve built a really good squad and we’re really confident going into the new season. Obviously we need to start off really well and if we can do that and get a few points on the board then we’ll be aiming for the top eight definitely.
It’s going to be tough though. Four teams have to go down into the lower tier so it’s just about avoiding that first really.
If you could pick any other Super League player to sign for Wakefield this year who would you pick and why?
I’d probably sign Kyle Amor from St Helens. He obviously left us a couple of years ago but he’s a great lad and a really funny guy to have around the changing room.
Who will be the next big thing at Wakefield?
We’ve a few good lads coming through. Obviously Tom Johnstone’s done really well in pre-season.
I think Craig Hall is going to have a massive year for us as well. We signed him from Hull KR last year and he’s got some great skill.
If Ladbrokes gave you a free £100 bet (other than Wakefield) to win the Super League who would pick and why?
I’d go with Catalans. I think they’ve strengthened really well in the summer and you’d getter better odds than on some of the other teams.

We won a semi final at Huddersfield and got to the final so that was great. I got injured the week before the final though so that’s probably the highest point and the lowest point of my career so far. The Challenge Cup is a great competition though and one that I hope we’ll do well in this year.
