Old Trafford goal has Man United interested in Clarets ace

| 13.02.2015

The rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool could be cranked up a gear this summer with the Red Devils said to keen to scupper the Kop outfit’s bid to land Danny Ings.

The Burnley striker is out of contract at Turf Moor at the end of the season and has done enough in his debut campaign in the top flight to attract admiring glances from a number of clubs.

The Reds were thought to be at the head of the queue but their failure to move in the January transfer window has left the door open for Louis van Gaal to enter the fray and the Dutchman is set to reveal his targets in a meeting with United’s owners this week.

Van Gaal will meet the Glazers in Manchester over the coming days, with the press describing the coming together as a transfer summit.

United are still in contention for a top four finish but have looked far from impressive on the field.

Radamel Falcao, in particular, has underwhelmed and Ings has emerged as a cheaper alternative to making the Monaco man’s loan stay permanent.

Ings was on the losing side as the Clarets went down 3-1 at Old Trafford last time out but after getting on the score sheet and finding space among the United back four on several occasions, Van Gaal was forced to sit up and take notice.

Ings, a product of the AFC Bournemouth youth academy, has scored nine goals in 22 Premier League starts this year and at just 22-years-old there is a firm belief that he will continue to progress in the coming years.

Much will be depend on the outcome of this season’s battle for Champions League places and with United in pole position in that respect it could be destination Old Trafford for the England prospect.
