Arsenal ahead of Liverpool in race for Champions League dreamer

Arsenal have emerged as the favourites to sigh French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton this summer.

That is according to the latest Ladbrokes odds, which show that the Gunners are evens to be the 25-year-old’s club by the close of the summer transfer window.

It comes in the wake of Schneiderlin’s latest comments regarding his future at St Mary’s with the in-demand midfielder expressing a desire to play continental football next term.

Speaking in an interview with L’Equipe, the Saints star did not mince his words when it came to discussing his future.

“I want to play at the highest level: it is important at 25 years old to finally know the Champions League,” he told the publication.

“I have no desire to be in front of my TV on Tuesday and Wednesday.”

The comments have seen long-time admirers Tottenham and Liverpool both move out in the betting, despite previously being linked with moves for the midfielder.

Spurs are now back at 10/1 to be Schneiderlin’s new club by the start of next season with the Reds out to 12/1 in the latest Ladbrokes odds.

Paris Saint-Germain could pose the biggest threat to Arsenal’s hopes of landing Schneiderlin with the Ligue 1 leaders likely to be able to guarantee Champions League football and currently 8/1.

But despite these considerations, it appears that the bookmaker is confident of the north London club capturing their man come the end of the season.

A spokesperson said: “With Arsenal’s need for a tough-tackling midfield linchpin already well-established, the odds suggest the Gunners could get their man this summer.”

Schneiderlin could feature for France in their friendly with Brazil later.

Les Bleus will also be in action against Denmark early next week, having already qualified for Euro 2016 as hosts.
