Manchester City looking to summer move for Newcastle youngster

| 16.03.2015

Manchester City may be weighing up a move for another Premier League striker this summer – but it’s not necessarily the one you would have imagined.

After a weekend in which the Sky Blues managed a total of 21 shots on goal against Burnley without finding a breakthrough in their 1-0 loss to the Clarets, it’s not a massive shock to see City linked with a move for another striker.

However, the news that their reported target is none other than Newcastle youngster Ayoze Perez may come as something of a surprise.

Signed from Spanish second-tier outfit Tenerife in the summer for €2m, Perez has been one of the few bright spots for the Tyneside outfit this term.

Still very much a work in progress, the 21-year-old has nevertheless scored five goals in the Premier League this term after being thrust into first-team action ahead of schedule.

These goals have not come against top-flight also-rans either with the Spaniard netting against Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton already this season.

Little wonder then, that Goal.com are reporting that John Carver has confirmed Manchester City’s interest in signing the striker.

“I’m not surprised [by the interest in Perez]. He’s a young lad and an exciting talent,” he said, in quotes carried by the news provider.

“I know for a fact there is interest. You go in coaches’ rooms after games and have a chat. A few people have spoken very highly of him, which is good.”

Newcastle beat the likes of Porto, Real Madrid and Barcelona to sign the Spaniard, who netted 16 goals in 34 Segunda Division outings for Tenerife last term.

A hard-working, pacey forward capable playing anywhere across the attacking front-line, Perez has also proven himself to be surprisingly good in the air despite being around 5ft 11in.

Having fought so hard to sign the Spaniard, it would most likely take a blockbuster bid from Manchester City to see him depart St James’ Park in the near future.
