He has already had his last ever Cheltenham Festival run. Soon his final Grand National race will be in the books too. Eventually, AP McCoy will no longer be a professional jumps jockey, just a retired one.
While the sport is set to lose the greatest pilot over fences it has ever seen, the Northern Irishman’s departure will revive what has been a monopolised British Champion Jockey competition since McCoy first won it during the 1995/96 season.
In the 18 seasons following McCoy’s maiden Champion Jockey success there has only ever been one name on the trophy. In 2015/16 it will be someone new, but the question remains; who?
