Spurs sensation stalking the Premier League top scorer prize

Published:

As breakthrough seasons go Tottenham’s Harry Kane is in the midst of a remarkable one, but he could yet seal it with one of the Premier League’s most coveted gongs.

Kane, the man Lilywhites jubilantly refer to as one of their own from the terraces, is mixing it at the top of the scoring charts with two of Europe’s most revered frontmen, from a position of virtual unknown before the 2014/15 campaign begun.

Chelsea’s Diego Costa leads the way on 18 goals, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is sandwiched between them on 17 and Kane has chalked off 16.

Costa is the obvious 5/4 favourite, especially as the divisive striker still theoretically has an extra game in hand on the other two, coming against bottom-place Leicester on a Wednesday night in late April.

Aguero is a 13/8 chance and Kane is an absolutely barnstorming bet at this stage of proceedings, a leap back at 4/1.

Although Costa found the net on his last league outing against Southampton, his form has hardly been sparkling of late as that goal broke an eight-game barren patch for the Premier League’s latest pantomime villain.

It’s that villainous streak which has already seen him miss three games through suspension and when throwing the former Atletico man’s suspect hamstrings, this only adds to Kane’s attraction in the market.

In the same breadth, Aguero’s fallibility to injury will have put many off plumping for City’s main man in the top-scorer stakes as well.

The Argentine ace is no stranger to a hamstring injury at the Etihad and has already missed over a month of the current season thanks to a knee-ligament problem.

Kane’s youthful exuberance has so far seen the Walthamstow wonder forgo any spells on the sidelines, but crucially his returns are far and away the best of the trio in 2015.

The Spurs striker has bagged 11 Premier League goals to Costa’s five and Aguero’s three.
