Our alternative team of the season sees Burnley out-gun Chelsea
Published:
This weekend the PFA will unveil their team of the season, honouring those Premier League players that have stood out above the rest in 2014-15.
Now we don’t want to be cynical, but you can probably assume that the representation of the ‘big clubs’ will be top heavy in the chosen 11.
That’s why we’ve put together our alternative side, which interestingly enough features three players involved in an almighty relegation scrap.

GK – Lukasz Fabianski – David de Gea will probably get the nod in the official line-up, but the Swansea stopper is our number one.
With 110 saves, and 11 clean sheets, more than the Spaniard, to his name, he’s been a major part of Swansea’s very steady season.
RB – Phil Jones – While he may have his mockers on social media, his excellent contribution to the Red Devils has gone under the radar.
With the highest average rating per game of all the defenders in the league according to WhoScored.com, who are we to argue?
CB – Jose Fonte – As the focal point of the Premier League’s tightest defence, the Southampton man is a worthy captain.
He’s made more tackles and more interceptions than any other centre-back this season, and gets the armband for us.
CB – Martin Skrtel – Liverpool’s season may not have pushed on how the Reds would have liked, but that’s not to say the Slovakian defender hasn’t put in his fair share.
He’s helped Brendan Roger’s side to 11 clean sheets and is a constant aerial threat on the attack.
LB – Aaron Cresswell – Bought for an initial fee of just over £2m in the summer, Cresswell looks to have been one of the bargains of the season.
Two goals and four assists have seen the attention from some of the league’s biggest clubs heighten.
RM – George Boyd – The first Turf Moor representative, but strangely not the last, the Scot has contributed some vital strikes to the Claret’s season.
Without his late winner against Manchester City, or the 86th minute leveller against Newcastle, Burnley could already be out of the survival race.
CM – Cesc Fabregas – The ultimate provider for his side, Fabregas may well make the official line-up, but we couldn’t leave him out.
A total of 16 assists in the Premier League this season, he has provided the perfect ammo for the potent Chelsea strikers.
CM – Santi Cazorla – That flair in the centre of the park is complimented by Fabregas’ fellow Spaniard.
He may not have set up as many goals (eight) as the Blues man, but with seven strikes of his own, Cazorla adds that extra threat.
LM – Yannick Bolasie – Topped off with stunning hat-trick against Sunderland recently, the Crystal Palace man has had a great season for the Eagles.
He’s set up six others for his Selhurst Park team-mates, and has become a firm favourite in south London with his displays of trickery.
ST – Charlie Austin – Messrs Kane and Costa will probably lead the PFA’s line, meaning Austin gets overlooked again, unjustly in our opinion.
Had he had the support Costa gets at Chelsea, you can bet your bottom dollar that the former Poole man would have improved on his impressive tally of 17 goals even further.
ST – Danny Ings – We’re going for an all-English front-line, and another relegation-threatened hitman to partner Austin.
A focal point for Burnley’s attack, his nine goals, like Boyd’s, will be vital if they are to survive. He looks a danger and will surely be snapped up by another top flight club if they go down.
