Arsenal could beat Manchester United to surprise World Cup hero

Second in the table and in the midst of a fantastic run of form in the Premier League, it’s fair to say things are going well for FA Cup semi-finalists Arsenal at the moment and they could be about to get even better this summer.

For years, Gooners groaned about the club’s lack of clout in the transfer market, with Arsene Wenger opting to seek out bargain deals rather than pay top dollar for talent.

But those days appear to be increasingly behind the Gunners, with Arsenal shelling out substantial sums for the likes of Mezut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in recent times.

The results of such expenditure were clear for all to see last weekend, with the pair playing a significant role in the club’s 4-1 triumph over Liverpool.

And anyone thinking Wenger and Co. are set to rest on their laurels, content with the squad at present, can think again if the latest reports are to be believed.

The Express is claiming that Arsenal are set to splash the cash yet again this summer with a £33m deal to sign Porto winger Yacine Brahimi.

Previously a target for fellow Champions League qualification hopefuls Manchester United, the 25-year-old has caught the eye with a series of glittering displays both domestically and in Europe this season.

Prior to that, Brahimi impressed as part of an Algeria side that upset the odds to progress to the knockout phase of the World Cup in Brazil, where they gave eventual winners Germany an almighty scare in the last-16, eventually losing 2-1 after extra time.

A capable dribbler who is effective at both holding up the ball and picking out a killer pass, Brahimi has scored five goals and provided a further three assists in the Champions League this term to help Porto progress to the quarter finals of the competition.

Capable of also playing as a central attacking midfielder, the Algerian has scored two goals in his last three outings at club level, including the winner against Vitoria Guimaraes last weekend.

Tipped for a bright future in the game, he could provide Arsenal with the extra attacking impetus needed to turn a potential runners-up finish this term into something even better in 2016.
