From Leeds to Arsenal – Party leaders and who they support

Politicians are a slippery bunch. Full of big promises and pledges, it’s often difficult to separate the truth from the fiction when it comes to pinning them down.
Who do you trust? What do you believe? It’s proving rather tricky to pick one from the other as we prepare for another big debate ahead of next month’s General Election.
Fortunately, Ladbrokes News is on hand to help you see the wood from the trees with a rundown of each of the big five and who they support.
Because, as any good football fan will tell you, an individual’s team of choice can often say a lot about them.
Nigel Farage – Crystal Palace
Though not what you would call an ardent Palace supporter, Farage’s son is thought to be a season ticket holder at Selhurst Park so we could yet see the UKIP leader necking a pint at stadium-based venue Crystals Nightclub very soon.
Ed Miliband – Leeds United
While big brother David is thought to be an Arsenal fan, the current Labour leader’s loyalties lie with Leeds United. The pair spent many of their formative years in Leeds, with Ed developing an affinity for the Elland Road side that remains to this day.
David Cameron – Aston Villa
DC’s links to the Claret and Blues date back to his uncle Sir William Dugdale, who previously served as chairman of Aston Villa. The Prime Minister enjoys talking football though he accidentally referred to Villa’s need to get “gains” rather than “wins” upon Tim Sherwood’s appointment.
Nick Clegg – Arsenal
A regular visitor to the Emirates, Clegg is perhaps the most authentic football fan of the bunch, but that is unlikely to help his cause much. Recently attended a north London derby with his sons and rejoiced after Arsenal ended a nine-year trophy drought with the FA Cup last term.
Nicola Sturgeon – Ayr United
Supporter of her hometown club, Sturgeon scores major brownie points by opting for a local side rather than any of the big boys from either Edinburgh or Glasgow. The SNP leader has done a few stadium-based photo shoots and seems genuinely enthused by Ayr’s endeavours.
Leanne Wood – Swansea or Cardiff
Though it’s unclear as to whether Wood likes football or even cares, we would imagine she is currently just happy seeing either one of Cardiff or Swansea doing well in the English football league.
Natalie Bennett – Brisbane Roar
Born in Sydney and another unlikely to care much for the beautiful game, Brisbane Roar represent Bennett’s best pick from the area, though they look likely to miss out on a play-off spot in the A-League.
