French Open Day 6: Tsonga set for breezy victory in best bets

Published:

Heading into the weekend at Roland Garros and luckily for the assembled French masses, none of their biggest hopes on the men’s side of the draw have fallen prematurely, including 2013 semi-finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The world number 15 faces Spaniard Pablo Andujar in round three and following a seamless start to proceedings, Tsonga is tipped for another comfortable victory, while two women’s games are also previewed.

Tsonga to beat Andujar 3-0 @ 13/8

The crowd favourite bettered the Spaniard 2-0 two years ago in their only previous meeting, albeit on hard courts, and hasn’t dropped a set yet at Roland Garros.

Andujar is already into uncharted territory at the French and was taken the maximum distance by Philipp Kohlschreiber just to book this date.

Tsonga has dropped just 11 games in two matches in contrast.

Andrea Petkovic v Sara Errani: Exactly three sets @ 5/4

This fascinating battle pits 10th seed Petkovic against 17th seed and former finalist Errani, who knows her way around the clay.

As the closeness of the match odds suggest, 10/11 and 4/5 respectively, guessing the winner is a hair-splitting exercise, especially as the players both won and lost a match against each other on the dirt last season.

All clues point to a maximum-distance tussle.

Carla Suarez-Navarro to beat Flavia Pennetta @ 4/11

The Spaniard is a force to be reckoned with on her favourite surface and although Pennetta is a tricky customer this is a price to grab looking at the form books.

The Italian has endured a poor clay season, losing three of her seven matches, whereas Suarez-Navarro is 12-3 with two of those losses coming against Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.

Suarez-Navarro will be looking beyond her quarter-final spot exit last year, while Pennetta looks unlikely to reach the first round for the first time.
