Fulham’s Dembele next midfielder to be linked with Everton

Everton are set to step up their efforts to bring Fulham youngster Moussa Dembele to the Premier League according to reports.

The 18-year-old has a year left on his current contract at Craven Cottage, so the London side could be tempted to cash in on the prodigy rather than risk losing him for a nominal fee next year.

The Frenchman made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Cottagers last season, and has gradually been making a name for himself in the capital.

Feyenoord and Genoa could provide competition for Roberto Martinez, according the Daily Star, but with the lure of the Premier League football set to hold sway, Dembele could yet opt to stay in Britain.

He isn’t a stranger to the top-flight though, having made a brace of cameo appearances for Fulham in the Premier League, coincidentally making his first start in the division against Everton in March last year.

The Toffees may have to pay over the odds relative to what the attacking-midfielder has achieved in his short career so far, but he has the attributes to develop into a top player.

He won’t however be the only candidate to bolster their options in the centre of the park over the summer.

The club’s pursuit of Manchester United’s Tom Cleverly shows no sign of letting up.

With the 13-capped England international currently on loan at FA Cup finalists Aston Villa, a lot could depend on the outcome of Saturday’s match.

Should Villa pull off a surprise victory, Cleverley would surely be more likely to stick around in the West Midlands, with a spot in the Europa League a further reward for Wembley success.

But if Tim Sherwood’s men fail to cause an upset, a switch to Merseyside could well be on the cards, with Ladbrokes pricing up Everton as Evens favourites to be the 25-year-old’s next club.
