Liverpool wish to scratch Lyon star’s itchy feet this summer

Liverpool’s quest to put goals back on the menu next season after an uncomfortably lean return from their strikers in 2013/14 means links between the Reds and any potentially-available hotshot are here to stay this summer.

One such forward, displaying the sort of prowess in front of goal that Liverpool became accustomed to last term thanks to Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez’s combined glut, is Lyon ace Alexandre Lacazette.

Already linked with a possible move to Premier League champions Chelsea in the summer, Lyon’s 31-goal man is not only the toast of France’s gastro capital, he’s also now among the most salivated over strikers on the continent.

Although Lacazette has been on a few clubs’ radars for a couple of years, the 23-year-old cannot escape the attentions of Europe’s elite any longer and Brendan Rodgers will be suitably encouraged by the player’s latest words.

‘I am good here, but after that I need to think about my progression, the future,’ he told French television. ‘We will see at the end of the season.’

Lacazette is likely to have some big decisions to make in which case.

Despite Manchester United doing their level best to keep Liverpool’s stick-thin top-four hopes alive – rated at 15/2 with three games remaining – in all probability the Reds will only be able to offer Europa League football to the Frenchman.

Second-rate European football may not appeal, but then being guaranteed a spot in the team at Anfield could.

Should Lacazette end up at Stamford Bridge or another established Champions League outfit, he could well suffer the backlash of a big fish, small pond scenario at Lyon.

Whatever happens the player’s feet sound like they’re in need of a scratch.
