Poll: Mayweather or Pacquiao? Who will win the big fight?

Published:

We are now just hours away from witnessing the most hotly-anticipated boxing bout in the sport’s history with Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao set to commence battle at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The bookies have the American down as the strong favourite, with odds of 1/2 suggesting Money will extend his unbeaten run to 48 fights.

PacMan can be backed at 15/8 to cause an upset – although as the more likeable character ‘an upset’ may not be the best choice of words – but who do you think will emerge victorious.

Have your say in the vote below.

Floyd Mayweather Jr

Mayweather has taken to describing himself as “The Best Ever” and while that statement is up for debate his reputation as one of the best defensive operators of all time is not.

The American is extremely difficult to hit and while Pacquiao is expected to be the more aggressive of the two, both men can count just one knockout – and a controversial one at that – between them this decade.

These facts have led many expert pundits to predict that Mayweather will take a points decision – the result of each of his last five fights – and it seems if the fight does indeed go the distance there will be only one winner.

Manny Pacquiao

Many boxing fans, while delighted to finally see these two face off, regret the fact this fight was not made five years ago.

At that time, Pacquiao had lost just twice in his career and was still at his peak. Mayweather may have started to decline but the fact he has always been able to rely on a steely defence means the fall has not been as obvious as in the Filipino’s case.

Since 2010 Pacquiao has fought seven times and lost twice, once on points to Timothy Bradley but most recently in a devastating sixth-round knockout courtesy of Juan Manuel Marquez.

Many believe that defeat has taken the wind out of Pacquiao’s sails and while he has reeled off three points wins since there is concern that he no longer packs the power required to penetrate Mayweather’s guard.
