Rangers set to build healthy lead in Scottish play-offs

A two-legged tie is all that stands between Rangers and a return to the Scottish top flight in the quickest time possible since their liquidation in 2012/13.
Since gaining admittance into the Scottish fourth tier that season, the Ibrox club have secured two consecutive promotions from Division’s Three and Two and now have a Premiership play-off final against Motherwell to negotiate in order to seal promotion from the Championship.
Having lost just three league games in their two previous seasons combined, Rangers have found life in the Championship far less of a stroll.
Faced with other sleeping giants, Hearts and Hibernian, the Teddy Bears finished third in the league, but managed to outdo the latter of that rival pair in the play-off semi-final to book this Motherwell date.
Despite being the lower-ranked side, the Glasgow outfit find themselves as the 1/1 favourite to win the first leg at home, a price fully justified when the form of the two teams is analysed.
Motherwell, who finished second bottom in the Premiership and are 11/4 to win, have been on a horrific run of away form, while Rangers have lost just twice in all competitions in their last 19 outings.
The Steelmen have suffered defeat in 13 of their last 15 away games and have shipped at least two goals in all but one of those losses.
Ladbrokes make it a 21/20 chance that the hosts score more than 1.5 goals at Ibrox, which certainly looks a price ripe for the taking considering Motherwell’s recent difficulties in defence and Rangers’ own efficiency in front of goal.
That bet would have landed in 10 of Gers’ last 14 matches and with The Dossers clearly out of sorts when playing away from Fir Park, there is a feeling that the price should be far skinnier than the one currently being offered.
