Spurs hope to exploit Burnley woe with right-back bid

Now that the season is over and three unlucky clubs have failed to extend their stays in the Premier League, the rest of the league is running a rule over their squads to see if any of them are worth keeping in the top flight.
Burnley have one obvious candidate for a big-club switch following the Claret’s relegation, with Danny Ings a regular in the country’s various gossip columns even before the campaign was through.
However, it seems that more than one Turf Moor employee is fancied for a summer switch, as English right back Kieran Trippier is a surprise transfer target of Tottenham Hotspur.
Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly beaten both Liverpool and Bournemouth to the punch in offering £3.5m for the England U21, who the Telegraph believe is close to agreeing terms with the club too. Ladbrokes themselves make it a 4/11 chance that Spurs will be Trippier’s next club.
Trippier enjoyed a consistent season in Sean Dyche’s struggling outfit and made 41 appearances in all competitions for the gravel-voiced boss.
Spurs have an obvious problem in Trippier’s position, with Kyle Walker suffering numerous injuries throughout the year, Kyle Naughton moving to Swansea and young American import DeAndre Yedlin deemed too green for a debut.
The Telegraph believe the £3.5m offer will trigger a release clause in Trippier’s Burnley contract, although the 24-year-old’s former club Manchester City will reportedly receive a chunk of that sum having negotiated a sell-on clause in the deal that took the defender to Turf Moor in 2012.
The Bury native has since gone on to 145 appearances for the club, won their Player of the Year award in 2012 and was named in two Championship Teams of the Year too.
Burnley are 14/1 with Ladbrokes to allay any disappointment of the drop with the Championship title next term.
