Swansea renew interest in signing Dutch U21 star compared to Henry

| 01.05.2015

While it is easy to get overexcited by comparisons to great players, Dutch U21 international Luc Castaignos clearly has a lot going for him if his playing style has drawn parallels with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Such laudable attributes, plus a tidy amount of goals, were enough to send Swansea sniffing around the Twente forward last summer and according to reports in Holland, Garry Monk is still very keen on landing his man.

Under Monk’s tutelage the Swans have already surpassed their best ever Premier League points total with four games still to play, but sitting on laurels is not an option if clubs wish to stay competitive in this league.

Signing quality players is therefore high on the agenda at the Liberty Stadium, which is fast becoming a fine stage for foreign imports to perform on.

With the Welsh club previously hitting gold with the signing of Wilfried Bony from Dutch club Vitesse, it’s harldy surprising to see Eredivisie stocks being raided again.

But what can fans of the south Wales outfit expect from the 22-year-old Twente striker should he sign?

Castaignos showed enough promise as a teenager to seal a move to Inter from his first club Feyenoord in 2011.

Having risen in meteoric fashion by scoring 15 league goals during his breakthrough campaign for the Dutch side, things didn’t go to plan in Serie A, before Twente took him back to his native land in the summer of 2012.

Since that point, the rangy forward has banged in between 10 and 15 Eredivisie goals per season for the last three.

Castaignos is also the record goal scorer at Holland U17 level of all time, so there is no doubting he has potential in abundance.
