5 transfer sagas set to rumble on all summer

Published:

The transfer window is now officially open and while some noteworthy deals have already been completed there are some moves that are set to drag on for weeks.

Each year football fans are treated to a will-they, won’t-they transfer tug of war as clubs play hard ball with their biggest assets as they go about assembling a squad for the season ahead.

Here Ladbrokes News highlights five that are set to rumble on for some time and explains where each player is most likely to end up.

Raheem Sterling – Liverpool to ?

After turning his nose up at a new £100,000-per-week deal in January it appears that Sterling is heading for the Anfield exit. However with two years left on his contract Liverpool are in a position of power and can command a hefty price for the 20-year-old winger.

The Reds remain the favourites to keep hold of their man but with Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all priced at under 10/1 there is plenty of scope for the England man to force through a move.

Latest odds: Liverpool -13/8, Real Madrid – 5/2, Manchester City – 7/2, Arsenal – 3/1, Chelsea – 6/1

Morgan Schneiderlin – Southampton to ?

The odds suggest the Frenchman is destined for Old Trafford but with a host of other top clubs interested in the holding midfielder a quick deal does not appear on the cards.

Saints are hoping to keep the 25-year-old and with European football to offer will feel they can perhaps hang on to him for another year. A concrete offer from Champions League-bound United though could trigger a bidding war, with Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and PSG waiting in the wings.

Latest odds: Manchester United – 4/5, Arsenal – 7/2, Tottenham – 7/2, Liverpool – 5/1, PSG – 8/1

Paul Pogba – Juventus to ?

Manchester United’s decision to turn their back on the rising star means a return to Old Trafford is off the cards but with three teams all priced at short odds a Juve exit appears likely.

However, with their man tied to another four years in Italy Juve are understandably in no rush to sell and are thought to be unwilling to listen to offers under £73m.

The interest is certainly there but whether Manchester City, Real, PSG or Barcelona are ready to stump up the cash remains to be seen.

Latest odds: Manchester City – 4/1, Barcelona – 4/1, PSG – 4/1, Real Madrid – 6/1, Chelsea – 8/1

David De Gea – Manchester United to Real Madrid?

Betting has already been suspended on De Gea joining Real this summer but as yet no concrete offer has arrived from the Bernabeu.

With talk of a £250,000 contract on the table at Old Trafford the Spaniard could yet stay put and even if he does move United’s interest in Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane means and deal is likely to be complex and time consuming.

Don’t expect any big news in the coming days!

Latest odds: Betting suspended

Nathanial Clyne – Southampton to ?

Southampton have stood firm in recent weeks but reports linking them to Sporting Lisbon’s Cedric Soares means the England man could yet be on the move.

Manchester United could up their interest after missing out on Dani Alves but Liverpool remain the favourites to prise Clyne away from St Mary’s.

There are plenty of other interest parties too so expect this one to drag on as Saints boss Ronald Koeman holds out for the biggest possible price.

Latest odds: Liverpool – 11/8, Manchester United – 11/4, Tottenham – 4/1, Chelsea – 9/1
