Is Carlos Carvalhal going to be the next Sheffield Wednesday boss?
In one of the most frenzied periods of activity of the summer a Portuguese coach with a chequered past has been busy doing his bit to break the Internet – as well as apparently becoming the new boss of Sheffield Wednesday.
Following news that the Championship side’s former supremo Stuart Gray had been sacked the rumour mill went into overdrive last night.
Ex-West Ham manager Sam Allardyce was top of the bookmakers’ initial shortlist but now he’s been usurped by Carlos Carvalhal.
Yep, we had to check his Wikipedia page too. According to the popular online resource the 49-year-old has already got the job. Well, it did until acts of vandalism…
Ladbrokes seem pretty certain of his appointment too with the bookmaker offering odds of 1/2 that the Portugal League Cup winner takes the reins in south Yorkshire.
Big Sam has been pushed out to 5/1 while you can get Paul Lambert at 7s and Slavisa Jokanovic at 8/1.
But let’s slow down for a minute. Just who is Carlos Carvalhal?
Before doing your own Wiki search here are a few interesting bits of information. One of these bullet points may not be factually accurate:
– Carvalhal has managed 14 teams during his 17-year managerial career, including Braga, Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas.
– The former centre back led Setubal to a famous inaugural Portuguese League Cup final triumph against Sporting in 2008.
– Carlos Cavalhal “rides a Viking ship that he himself crafted from ancient Mahogany and Oak. He rides it naked across the Mediterranean. On ghostly nights he can be heard wooing ladies with his sexy accent.”
