Firmino looks good value to breach 7.5 goal line for Liverpool

No sooner had he notched the deciding goal for Brazil during their Copa America clash against Venezuela, than Roberto Firmino was confirmed as Liverpool’s latest signing.

Firmino had been tracked by a number of top clubs including Manchester United, but the Samba Boys’ new star in the absence of the suspended Neymar, opted for a switch from Hoffenheim to Liverpool instead.

The influence of international teammates Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Leiva may well have been telling in Firmino’s decision, but however the deal was sealed, Liverpool fans will be hoping for great things from their newest arrival.

The transfer is still subject to the completion of a medical after the Copa America is concluded, but having made 30+ Bundesliga appearances in each of his four full seasons at Hoffenheim, barring a cruel twist of fate, this seems a formality.

A hefty fee in the region of £28m immediately adds to the expectations on Merseyside, but the 23-year-old boasts very promising stats in front of goal and in the assist department.

With bookmakers Ladbrokes reacting to the biggest deal of the summer so far by releasing a series of specials, the aforementioned stats render the odds very appealing.

The forward has clearly been brought in to increase the goal threat missing this season under Brendan Rodgers and having racked up seven in the league and 10 overall as an attacking midfielder in 2014/15, the omens offer encouragement.

In fact, during the season prior Firmino fired in 16 Bundesliga strikes for the mid-table outfit and in four full campaigns at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena, the Brazilian attacker has averaged 8.75 league goals per season.

Ladbrokes offer 5/6 that the Anfield new boy breaks the 7.5 Premier League goals line in his debut season.

This looks like a solid investment in one of the brightest talents in world football.
