Owing to their star-studded ranks Marc Wilmots’ side will be heavy favourites, but possibly unjustifiably in the context of this group. Having also been held on the road in Bosnia, another tight match leading to the draw could well be on the cards.

Having lost to Scotland 1-0 in Glasgow before drawing with early Group D pacesetters Poland, the pressure is on the Irish in this tasty-looking fixture. Given the frenetic nature of the contest in Scotland, it’s quite plausible that this Dublin clash will pan out in much the same way; high on energy and low on clear cut chances.

A perfect record of five wins from five have given England a six-point cushion over their hosts in second, whom they defeated 3-1 at Wembley in Group E.
