Liverpool recruitment drive continues apace with Barca winger
Published:
James Milner, Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino have already signed up to Liverpool’s attacking revolution 2.0 this summer, but the Reds seem anything but ready to end their shopping spree.
Following on from a 2014 offseason that saw no less than five forward-thinking players arrive at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers has continued to splash the cash in the final third, with more additions reportedly in store.
Talksport believe that Liverpool have joined Manchester City in taking an interest in Barcelona forward Pedro, despite the Spaniard only recently signing an extension to his deal at the Nou Camp.
That the wide-man even penned such a contract was mind boggling. The formidable trident that Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar formed rendered Pedro’s playing time almost nonexistent.
In fact, it’s that limited action (just 15 La Liga starts last term) that has the player considering a change of scenery in spite of his new deal, with an offer of around £18m thought to be enough to get talks underway.
Barcelona managed to win the treble last season without the need to lean on the 27-year-old too heavily, so it’s easy to see why the Blaugrana are willing to cash in on a player who has claimed 19 major honours during his time with the club.
Talksport indicate that the Premier League would be Pedro’s preferred destination, although with the number of forwards Rodgers is collecting at Anfield, Liverpool may not be the best choice if an increased first-team role is the Tenerife native’s ultimate goal.
With the Reds out to 33/1 to win the Premier League just two seasons after finishing as silver medallists, such a heavy recruitment drive is understandable, but whether it is being correctly conducted remains debatable.
