Thriller in store as Day makes it a four-horse US Open race

It is safe to say that Chambers Bay hasn’t played host to the most celebrated US Open in history, with the greens roundly criticised, but by the time the final round is in the books it could have held one of the most memorable.
An incredible effort from Jason Day saw the Australian hold a share of the four-way lead at the end of the third round, shooting the second-lowest score of the day just 24 hours after collapsing on the course with vertigo.
Day has suffered with the problem with uncomfortable regularity through his career and claimed to have felt ropey throughout the third round, but dug deep to shoot two-under par and position himself perfectly for a first ever Major title.
Ladbrokes give the 27-year-old a 4/1 chance to secure his own personal moment of history, which seems fair given the struggles he says he has faced in shaking off his medical problems.
The guts he showed in the third round, when physically shaking on certain tee boxes, means he cannot be discounted to complete a famous and incredible win.
Day is joined at the top of the leaderboard by American duo Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson and South African Branden Grace.
Spieth is handed the favourite’s chance of claiming both golf’s and his second Major of the season at 2/1, although he arguably played the worst of the four leaders in round three.
Johnson, who hit every fairway during his even-par third round, is next in the betting at 5/2 and will play in the final group with Day, while Grace rates as the outsider of the quartet at 6/1.
With the next group of players sat three shots back at one-under par, it seems unlikely that a dramatic late charge will be enough to secure victory, but after shooting four-under to join that chasing pack, Louis Oosthuizen certainly seems worth a small flutter at 20/1 to put pressure on the leaders.
