How Twitter reacted to Liverpool landing £28m Brazilian
Liverpool have beaten off arch rivals Manchester United to land Hoffenheim forward Roberto Firmino on a deal thought to be around £28m.
Naturally, the news has sparked pure excitement among Reds fans, the kind only experienced on Christmas morning or when almost winning the Premier League.
However, such exhilaration wasn’t widespread, as a scan through Twitter proved.
Here’s the best of the reaction to the transfer:
The club themselves sparked the meltdown, announcing the transfer at 6:58 AM (!) this morning.

The BBC’s Ben Smith provided all the financial details.

But it didn’t sound like Jamie Carragher knew much about the player.
Come on hipsters what’s Firmino like?!!

The rest of Merseyside, however, seemed to allow their imaginations to run wild at the thought of Firmino’s arrival.

Some even named him as Luis Suarez’s replacement.

On the other side of the fence, people pondered whether Liverpool, in typical Liverpool fashion, had overpaid somewhat.
29mill for Firmino puts into perspective the absolute steal £32 mill was for Alexis. #levels

Let’s all put the Firmino transfer into perspective. £29 million for him. Hazard was only £32m in 2012.

Some meanies just wanted to flat out burst Liverpool’s bubble.
Brazilian forwards who have two names are never as good as the ones with one name. Just saying. The extra word is extra weight.
