Wimbledon: Steer clear of Stan the Man despite French Open win

After blasting his way past Novak Djokovic to claim his second Grand Slam title and first at the French Open, Stan Wawrinka will be looking forward to Wimbledon as much as any player.
The Swiss sensation is now fourth in the betting at 12/1 to win at the All England Club, moving ahead of two-time champion Rafa Nadal, who is 16/1.
However, Wawrinka still looks an unlikely victor in London, with his game less suited to grass, where rapid rallies and the low bounce don’t allow him to set up his haymaker winners as easily.
The 30-year-old made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last year, by far his best performance at the tournament, but has been knocked out in the first round in three of the past five seasons.
Novak Djokovic, smarting from missing out on a career Grand Slam at Roland Garros, is the favourite to win Wimbledon at 5/4, and the only man likely to have any chance of stopping him is Andy Murray (10/3).
The Serbian bounced back from a French Open final loss last year to win in London, and his overall form this season still makes him very much the man to beat.
The loss to Wawrinka was just Djokovic’s third defeat of 2015, and his first since February, with the world number one racking up five titles already.
His main threat at Wimbledon will be the home favourite Murray, who is back to his best and will no doubt take heart from Wawrinka’s win over the previously unstoppable Serbian, who has accounted for four of Murray’s six defeats this season.
The Scot himself ran Djokovic close in the semi-finals of the French Open, and with Murray winning both of their prior matches on grass – in the 2012 Olympics and 2013 Wimbledon final – it’s not unreasonable to suggest he would be the favourite if they meet again this time around.
