New Zealand to bite back in 2nd ODI at batsman-friendly Oval

While the country gets swept away on a wave of six-hitting and wicket-taking, shouting at the top of their lungs that England’s one-day cricket has changed for the better and forever, Ladbrokes have retained some perspective on the matter.
The bookmaker still makes New Zealand the favourites to win the 2nd ODI at the Oval, despite the Black Caps copping a 210-run defeat at Edgbaston on Tuesday.
Although it’s tempting to let the excitement about Eoin Morgan’s new-look side lead into a heavy backing of their 11/10 odds for victory in London, it’s the 8/11 about Brendon McCullum’s squad that must get the most attention.
For starters, the Kiwis have been playing the style of cricket that England pulled out of a hat in Birmingham for a lot longer. They will also no doubt dial up those attacking instincts this time out in a bid to level the series at the earliest opportunity.
With both teams playing a white-knuckle brand of 50-over cricket, however, they have another venue in which to showcase their talents.
The Oval is renowned for being a batsman’s paradise and, much like the Edgbaston pitch that greeted them before it, will aid long-hitting and run-making.
In fact, it’s just a 4/6 possibility that there is a century in the game, with the visitors favoured again in the six-hitting stakes at 1/2 to England’s 6/4.
From the individual markets, Jason Roy rates a good shout to bounce back from his first-ball duck to top England’s runscorers on home soil at 9/2.
For the visitors, Ross Taylor, who was the one bright spot of New Zealand’s chase at Edgbaston is the handed the same odds to finish on top of the Kiwi’s pile for the second successive game.
