Fan favourite Lennon emerges as Leicester job frontrunner

Whenever football clubs lose their managers it’s no surprise to see former playing greats immediately placed in the running for the vacancy and that’s exactly what has happened at Leicester.
Nigel Pearson’s hugely-unexpected dismissal has placed the Premier League club in the market for a new boss and it’s being widely speculated that former crowd favourite Neil Lennon could well answer the call.
Indeed the former Foxes midfielder has raced to the front of the betting with Ladbrokes, who’ve installed Lennon as the 7/4 market leader to replace Pearson at the helm.
It seems that after a distinguished Leicester career as player it may be a very difficult opportunity to turn down for the Lennon.
Playing under Martin O’Neill in the late 90s, the Northern Irishman was an integral member of the Foxes team which achieved promotion to the top-flight before a pair of League Cups were secured during a golden four-year period.
Currying favour at the King Power wouldn’t be an issue for the former Celtic manager therefore, who left Scottish football for Bolton Wanderers last October.
Lennon’s dip south of the border to Championship side Bolton was always viewed as a potential stepping stone to the Premier League, even by Lennon’s own admission, only now that chance may be arriving earlier than he envisaged.
Leicester have not officially stated they are in talks with the Trotters boss, but given the strong links and Lennon’s impressive CV from his time at Celtic, he’ll surely be a desirable choice.
This could be one short-lived courtship if Lennon gets the green light the Foxes want him to take the reins.
With only five weeks until the new season, a swift resolution is certainly in the Midlands club’s best interests.
