Narrowing striker market leaves Spurs bidding for West Brom ace

After Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado combined to score just three Premier League goals to Harry Kane’s 21 last season, finding a striker (or two) to better support the breakout England star was always going to central to Mauricio Pochettino’s summer plans.
Locating the players to offer the Walthamstow youngster that help has proved problematic for the Lilywhites thus far though.
With Liverpool matching Christian Benteke’s release clause at Aston Villa, one of the best striking options for Tottenham to buy this summer looks to have slipped through the net.
Rumours linking Spurs with young forwards like Anthony Martial, Michy Batshuayi, Breel Embolo and Timo Werner have proved to be both uninspiring and lacking credibility, while the prospect of Benteke was a real whistle wetter for the White Hart Lane faithful.
With the Belgian off the table though, Spurs have switched to one of the few remaining Premier League prospects on offer, with a reported bid of £15m for West Brom’s Saido Berahino expected any day.
The Sunday People believe Pochettino will table his offer in the coming days as he seeks to reunite Kane with the England U21 striker he formed a deadly goal-scoring partnership with.
Berahino has been linked with a move away from the Hawthorns ever since he voiced his ambitions of playing for a bigger club one day in the future.
A campaign in which the Burundi-born striker netted 14 Premier League goals and 20 in all competitions certainly fuelled the fire of his exit, but the Sunday People believe West Brom will hold out for a heftier fee than £15m.
Having added Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Trippier to solve their defensive problems, the sharp end of the field remains the final area in need of recruitment ahead of their 13/2-rated top-four challenge.
