Premier League Countdown: West Brom to win away to local rivals
Published:
No team kept more clean sheets on the road than the eight managed by West Brom in the top flight last season and this fact enhances the appeal of the latest special being included in our countdown to the new Premier League season.
With 13 days remaining, a 13/1 special has been created, which is West Brom to win away to both Midlands rivals Aston Villa and Leicester.
On first appearance, this doesn’t look the most appealing, given that the Baggies have only won seven away games across the past two Premier League campaigns combined.
However, following Tony Pulis’ arrival in January, West Brom were only beaten in four of their 11 away matches, with two of these coming against Manchester City and Arsenal.
The league and cup defeats to Aston Villa were not so tolerable, but it is worth noting that West Brom play Tim Sherwood’s side as early as the sixth game of the season and there is every chance that the Villans will still be adapting to life without Fabian Delph and, in particular, Christian Benteke.
Furthermore, only relegated pair Burnley and Hull, alongside Sunderland, took fewer points on home soil than Villa last season.
A victory at Leicester is much easier to anticipate given how well West Brom have done in the most recent examples of this fixture.
The Baggies have triumphed on their last four visits to Leicester, including 1-0 in the Premier League last season.
Meanwhile, it has been over two decades since Leicester celebrated a home success over West Brom, with the last instance being January 1994.
They will have to wait until March to have the next chance to end this record.
