Two putting prodigies set for a strong run at the Canadian Open

The RBC Canadian Open will be held at Ontario’s Glen Abbey Golf Course for the 27th time this year, where, generally speaking, a hot putter is the biggest necessity to win.
Brandt Snedeker, a well-renowned master of the flat stick, is the de facto defending champion, having won the tournament when it was last held at the Oakville course back in 2013.
All of the past four winners at Glen Abbey – Snedeker included – have finished the week inside the top 11 for putts per green in regulation.
With that in mind, the search to find the potential winners of the 2015 edition should be narrowed to those proficient on the greens, with two candidates – priced at 20/1 and 66/1 respectively – standing out.
Luke Donald is enjoying a renaissance of late having finished inside the top 12 in each of his last three starts.
His tie for 12th at The Open Championship last time out was confirmation that his form funk is well and truly over, mixing it with the names he once rubbed shoulders with regularly after recording a pair of T7s in the two weeks prior to his St Andrews visit.
Over the past 10 tournaments on either Tour, Donald ranks third in the Canadian Open field in the putts-per-GIR statistic, which bodes fantastically well for his chances of claiming a first title since 2013.
While Donald’s recent form and putting ability makes him one of the favourites with Ladbrokes – his 20/1 price puts him third in the betting – arguably the best putter on the PGA Tour this season finds himself all the way down at 66s.
Australian Matt Jones sits on top of the Tour’s overall putting average list and is currently taking 1.545 putts per hole. In addition, the 2014 Shell Houston Open champion finds himself in the top 10 for both one-putt percentage and putts-per-round, so is definitely worth investing in.
His 30th place at The Open last week was his best ever at a Major, so he is sure to arrive in Canada full of beans.
