How Twitter reacted to ‘speechless’ Johnson’s Open victory

Published:

Zach Johnson held his nerve in a four-hole Open Championship play-off at St Andrews to win the second Major of his career and the American was clearly moved by adding the Claret Jug to his Green Jacket.

The 2007 Masters champ birdied two of the four play-off holes to seal victory by a single shot ahead of Louis Oosthuizen, the last man to win the Open around the Old Course in 2010.

Johnson was overcome by emotion after his heroics at the end of a badly weather affected championship, which finished on a Monday for only the second time in its 144-year history.

Twitter certainly seemed to appreciate the Iowa native’s efforts and his humble address to the crowds afterwards:

The Guardian newspaper are one of many to praise Johnson’s humility
