Watford spending spree could continue with Ivorian hitman

Having smashed their transfer record with the signing of Tottenham’s Etienne Capoue, Watford could be set for more major signings with a reported interest in Seydou Doumbia.
According to Goal.com Roma are willing to sell their Ivorian striker, with the 27-year-old, struggling his way to just two goals from 13 matches since arriving in January.
And now it appears the Italian giants are prepared to cut their losses.
The Stadio Olimpico outfit paid €14.4m for the former CSKA Moscow man after he blasted 83 goals in 126 appearances for the Russian side, and are likely to demand much of that outlay to be restored.
However it appears that the ruling Pozzo family at Vicarage Road are more keen on a loan deal, with reports suggesting that a season-long spell in Hertfordshire could prelude a switch for the sum of €14m.
Any move would once again break the Hornets’ previous transfer record, as they look to extend their stay in the top flight to more than one season.
Doumbia had been linked to a move to China’s Shanghai Shenua, but with Besiktas’ Demba Ba making that move last week, any such switch looks to be on the back burners.
A switch to the Premier League new boys would further bolster their attack which has seen Matej Vydra return to the club, this time on a permanent basis.
With Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo promising big things if replicating their performances of 2014-15, Quiche Flores’ side could surprise many this season.
They are evens to stay in the division come May, while they are 12/5 outsiders to out-perform fellow promoted clubs Bournemouth (7/5) and Norwich (6/4).
Adding Doumbia to their strike force could see Flores’ men defend from the front with a whole host of attacking options.
While interest from the likes of Shanghai and Fenerbache for the hitman may be on the wane, Watford could yet be drawn into a battle for his signature with Greek giants Olympiakos.
