The Big Fijian among PGA Championship first-rounder leader bets

The final golf major of the year is fast approaching and among Ladbrokes’ multitude of markets for the 2015 PGA Championship is the first-round leader which always harbours oodles of value.
The only tough thing in a field of 156 competitors is guessing who may come flying out the blocks fastest, but as always there is some applicable science.
Two of our selections have very recent form of making commanding starts at this years majors and the other is a two-time PGA Champion who has a very strong affilation with the unique demands of Whistling Straits.
Here is our rundown:
Jason Day @ 20/1
Quite simply, it is going to be a Colin Montgomerie-sized travesty if the Australian doesn’t win a major tournament very soon. Three times a runner-up in the biggies, and fourth at the recent Open Championship, Day will be buzzing after his Canadian Open victory following that Claret Jug near miss. The occasional vertigo sufferer has featured in the top 10 on the leaderboard at all three flagship events this season too, twice second in the clubhouse after 18 holes.
Dustin Johnson @ 22/1
If anyone has greater claims than Day (or Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy…yawn) in this market it’s DJ. Another majors bridesmaid desperate to catch the bouquet, the American bomber has landed punters the honours both at Chambers Bay and most recently St Andrews after 18. If only he could sustain his challenge until the bitter end, this lightning starter would be a shoo-in for a landmark victory this season.
Vijay Singh @ 250/1
The joker in the pack, but the Big Fijian really could defy his odds as the only man to be on the leaderboard after round one the last two times the PGA Championship visited Whistling Straits. In 2004 he won and in 2010 he tied for 39th. Singh can still drive 290 yards and shot three sub-70 rounds to finish 18th at the recent John Deere Classic. VJ is also third on the PGA Tour from the sand, which bodes well around this bunker-laden track.
