Celtic off to fast start as new Ladbrokes SPFL season kicks off
Published:A brand new, Ladbrokes sponsored Scottish football season got underway at the weekend, with the Premiership seeing four games taking place.
It was defending champions Celtic that had the honour of lifting the curtain on the campaign, hosting Ross County at home in the early game.
The partisan locals didn’t have to wait long for something to celebrate either, as striker Leigh Griffiths was brought down in the penalty area inside the first two minutes of the match.
The striker quickly dusted himself off to slot home the spot kick and many believed, there and then, that the heavy Premiership title favourites had already done enough to retain their crown…
Celtic have won the league.

Stefan Johansen doubled the Bhoys’ lead in the 35th minute, after goalkeeper Craig Gordon was lucky to only see yellow for a foul outside the box, with this strike and the game was as much as over:

It’s not the Hoops that top the table after the opening day, however, with that honour falling to Paul Hartley’s Dundee thanks to their 4-0 thrashing of Kilmarnock.
Greg Stewart and Rory Loy grabbed themselves two goals each as Hartley’s men ran riot at Rugby Park, drawing high praise from their manager…
Paul Hartley “That’s probably the a best performance in an attacking sense since I joined the club”

Elsewhere, an early Wes Fletcher goal was enough to hand Motherwell a 1-0 win at Inverness, while Hamilton Academical couldn’t get past 10-man Partick Thistle and endured a frustrating goalless draw.
