Doncaster v Leeds: All the drama to come after the break
Published:
Of all the competitive football games to take place across England on the opening weekend of Premier and Football League action, it was Doncaster that grabbed the attention.
Paul Dickov ordered his Rovers squad to allow League One Bury a walk-in goal deep into added time, after Doncaster inadvertently took the lead minutes earier when over-hitting their return pass to the keeper after an injury stoppage.
As sporting as the move was, the Vikings boss will now want to take the spotlight off his decision and gain a first win of the season when his side host Leeds in the Capital One Cup.
Like their hosts on Thursday night, Leeds opened their season with a 1-1 draw in the Championship, seeing Burnley cancel out Mirco Antenucci’s curling opener with four minutes left on the clock.
Although the game pits a second-tier team against a third, Ladbrokes look to have had trouble separating the pair in the match-betting market.
Donny are rated at 7/4 for a 90-minute victory in front of their own fans, with the Whites marginally preferred at 8/5 and the draw available 23/10.
However, it is the number of goals or, rather, when they’ll come that provides the market most cherry ripe for the picking, with 1/1 available that the second period sees the most goal-mouth action.
All four of the goals scored in the pair’s opening matches of the season came after the orange sucking. In fact, each goal came inside the last 10 minutes.
With Leeds boss Uwe Rosler expected to ring the changes for the cup tie, the Elland Road outfit could well take their time finding their groove for the Yorkshire Derby, which will only help our preferred punt.
If, however, that doesn’t take customers’ fancy, there are a couple of special offers for the game offered by the Ladbrokes odds makers, details of which can be found below:
