Ladbrokes Premiership: No let up from Aberdeen and Hearts

| 24.08.2015

Champions Celtic were victorious in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off but the Hoops know they’ve got at least two determined challengers for their title crown this season.

Aberdeen and Hearts both maintained their 100 per cent records as the prospect of a genuine assault on their dominance increases by the week.

Adam Rooney struck twice for the Dons to see off a determined Dundee side 2-0.

It was looking like it might be a frustrating afternoon for the home side, who dominated without being able to break down a stubborn rearguard away performance. Jonny Hayes put in a fantastic performance on the wing, terrorising the Dees defence and he put in a wonderful cross to set-up the opener.

Meanwhile, the Jambos made it five from five with an impressive 3-0 against Partick Thistle, with the deadly strike partnership of Osman Sow and Juanma both on the scoresheet again.

The Gorgie men remain two points clear of Celtic at the top after the Bhoys came away from Tannadice with all three points in a 3-1 victory.

Ronny Delia made a number of changes to his line-up after their midweek European exploits but the Glasgow giants still won at a canter. One man who kept his place in team, the impressive Leigh Griffiths, opened the scoring and was a constant menace throughout.

Two teams who continue to struggle and remain winless are Inverness and Kilmarnock.

Caley slumped to a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Hamilton and look in desperate need of more striking options. They created plenty of chances, but squandered them all.

The Accies were much more clinical and strikes from Morris and Longridge gave them a deserved away win.

The pressure is mounting on Killie manager Gary Locke. They’ve had a miserable start to the season, and it took an even worse turn with a 4-0 loss to Ross County in front of the Rugby Park faithful. The Staggies were two up inside five minutes and four up by half-time in a dream away result.

In the final match of the weekend St Johnstone came from a goal down to defeat Motherwell 2-1 at McDiarmid Park. Veteran frontman Steve MacLean netted a brace to earn his side a first win of the campaign.
