Love Your Club – Craig Molloy – Brechin City

Published:

To be able to play for Brechin City you have to enjoy travelling the length and breadth of the country on a regular basis but for Craig Molloy clocking up the miles is a small price to play for
the privilege of being in the City squad.

The experienced midfielder joined the Angus club in 2010 and is having as much fun at Glebe Park as the day he joined – if not more.

Here he tells Ladbrokes News why he loves Brechin City…

Why do you love Brechin City?

I really enjoy it here. This is me going into my sixth year. It’s a very small club and they treat you very well and anyone who has played here will tell you how well you’re treated by everybody from the committee to the fans. You have to enjoy travelling to play here but it’s a club that once people start playing here there’s not many that want to leave.

Describe the fans and what they mean to the club

We’ve got a small hardcore bunch of fans that are really loyal. You recognise almost all of them and they are always getting behind the team which is fantastic.

What’s the vibe like at Glebe Park?

At Brechin City there are only around 450 fans on a good day so it’s not the biggest crowd. It’s an old ground and a small ground but it’s got a certain charm and there’s a great atmosphere so everyone here really enjoys it.

Can you name a Brechin City Backroom Hero?

Gus Fairlie is on the committee an he’s the person the payers speak to about wages, expenses, travel and everything else. He’s our first point of contact. If there’s anything that needs doing he’s the man to call. He’s a well respected person and everyone at this club certainly values his efforts.

What do you love most about being a Brechin City footballer?

Playing on a Saturday at a good level in front of a crowd. You live your whole life around Saturday and playing at grounds you’ve seen or heard of as a kid. They may not be the biggest places and the biggest teams but it still you gives you a buzz and it’s what I enjoy most about being a footballer.
