Celtic are plotting their path to the Champions League proper and should the Bhoys make the group stages of the competition few players will be happier than captain Scott Brown.
The midfielder says the Bhoys’ loyal fan base come into their own on those special European nights and as a huge part of the fabric of the club, Brown hopes he and the rest of the players in the squad can deliver on that front.
Here he tells us why he loves Celtic FC…
Why do you love Celtic?
I think it’s the passion the fans have got, especially on European nights, when they come out in their thousands to be perfectly honest.
They offer huge support for 90 minutes and are pretty much the 12th man no matter what happens.
It’s been that way throughout the history of the club and its roots and it still goes on now.
Describe the fans and what they mean to the club
I’m on Instagram now but I’ve just started so I’m a bit behind everyone else in terms of technology, but the fans are brilliant.
They are always sending pictures and videos and it’s people of all ages from kids all the way through to adults. Every one of our players can be in touch with any fan at any time now because of social media and I think that’s brilliant.
What’s the vibe like in the dressing room?
It’s a good vibe. The gaffer brings out the best in us and likes to play attractive football and that’s what we try to do.
Everyone in the changing room is always looking forward to getting out on the pitch and especially at Celtic Park where the atmosphere is brilliant and we get to play on a bowling green. That makes it great for us to get out there and play the Celtic way.
Can you name a Celtic Backroom Hero?
There’s a lot. Wee Andrea who’s been there for years and years. She’s the kit woman but she’s also a silent assassin to be perfectly honest and she tells people how it is and stuff like that but she also works really hard. She’s got a hard job but everyone at the club loves her for it.
What do you love most about being a Celtic footballer?
It’s a job and it’s also a hobby. It’s what I always wanted to do and I’m one of the lucky individuals to have taken that step and to do it and at Celtic Park where it’s always a great occasion.
It’s something I thrive on and am learning to enjoy it more in the later stages of my career than when I was 17 or 18 and perhaps took it for granted a little bit.
