Man City short-changed, Chelsea laughing after Champions League draw

Published:

The draw for the group stage of the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League is complete and once again Manchester City have been handed a tricky assignment in European football’s elite competition.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will have to negotiate difficult ties against Serie A champions Juventus, Europa League holders Sevilla and Bundesliga dark horses, Borussia Monchengladbach in Group D.

However, bookmaker Ladbrokes are still confident about the Citizens’ chances of getting out of the group with odds of 3/4 that City top the standings and as short as 1/6 that they qualify.

Elsewhere, Chelsea (2/7 to win their group, 1/20 to qualify) will probably be the happiest of the English sides with regards to how the draw panned out.

The Premier League champions have been matched up against Porto, Dynamo Kiev and outsiders Maccabi Tel Aviv in Group G.

Louis van Gaal and Manchester United (17/20 to win their group, 2/9 to qualify) also can’t have too many complaints after PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg were announced as their opponents in Group B.

Meanwhile, Arsenal (11/4 to win their group, 1/6 to qualify) are likely to challenge Bayern Munich for top spot in Group F with Olympiacos – a side the Gunners have been paired with in four of the last seven seasons.
